A few weeks ago, a good friend had a small calligraphy job request. My friend's sister wanted a herb garden for Christmas so she is making a kit for her. Was humbled and thrilled to work on it for her. If you are still in a search of a gift this holiday season, consider this simple DIY project!
MATERIALS:
- Wooden Marker Sticks (These were from Merrifield Garden Center)
- Painter's Tape
- Paint Brush
- Chalk Pencil/Pen
- Chalkboard Paint
- Paper Plate
INSTRUCTIONS:
Step 1: Using painter's tape, mark off the area you would like to paint. I marked around 3/4 of the way down.
Step 2: Once you have taped off all the sticks, apply one coat of chalkpaint with a paint brush.
(*Note: I applied two coats of the chalkboard paint. The instructions was to let try 1 hour between coats but I believe since this is smaller surface, it dried much quicker. So I only waited about 15 minutes in between.
Step 3: After applying the two coats and letting the sticks completely dry, carefully peel off the painter's tape.
Step 4: With a chalk pencil, sketch out the name of herb on each stick. My friend had a list of 8 herbs:
- Sage
- Basil
- Cilantro
- Parsley
- Thyme
- Dill
- Oregano
- Chives
***Sketched out on paper first to practice and get a feel for spacing. :D
Step 5: Go over the pencil markings with a chalkboard pen and voila!
