Guys, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I've been blogging now a little over a year under the name "The Hungry Bear". It's where I have my creative outlet to showcase my DIY projects, Project Life (and other scrapbooking albums) and everyday life. But I also am dreaming about starting my own Event Design Business where I have the name "The Rustic Type". I only have an instagram page for it for right now. I think it's just a lot of keep track of. My personal blog, instagram for event design, personal instagram and the potential event design website.
I believe I have my hand in too many things and I am trying to do too much. I feel that i'm okay/average at many things and don't excel in one thing. I want to do calligraphy. I want to do prop styling. I want to scrapbook. I want to craft. I know I can't do it all.
I have never been good at the branding aspect of things. I see all these creative names for businesses and I think to myself, "why didn't I think of that?" I was afraid of using my name as my business, example: Linda Ha Events because what if it fails and my name goes down with it. But there are plenty of successful people out there who use their name as part of their business. My sister and boyfriend have said, there's nothing wrong with using your name.
ONE STOP SHOP.
I want one cohesive website where I can showcase and market my event design business but also a place where I can blog about everything days. I don't want to go to two different sites to do this. It should be one stop shop.
The dilemma I am struggling with is that I'm not a web developer and don't want to go broke to have someone build a website for me. I know what I want on the website, it's just getting from point A to point B. I only know a little bit (REALLY LITTLE) of coding or what I could google when I was putting together this blog.
SIMPLER LOOK.
I have always been a fan of clean and beautiful design. I want my website to feel that way. When someone stops by that they are inspired by the simplicity of the photos and design.
IMPORTING BLOG CONTENT.
Keeping with the one stop shop idea. I want to be able to take all the content from typepad and import it. I have read online that it's doable but the link to photos will still link back to typepad. I don't want that cause I would still have to keep paying monthly so the photos stay active. Unless there is a non-painful way to do this that I don't know of.
I did a 14 day trial with Squarespace because I love their simple and clean design. Also love that you get a custom domain name and hosting service that are included in your monthly plan. The downside is that it seems really preset and that you might be limited to what you can really change on the website. I keep going back and forth. I have been hestitant to subscribed to Squarespace because I didn't want to add another monthly charge when I am not 100% sure of what I want to do.
If you're a blogger or run your own business, do you have an opinion as to if I should keep blogging and business as two separate entities? or combine the two? I'd love to hear your feedback as I try to continue to find my way!
i like the idea of using your name!!! :-D
