Last week Robert, Bear and I took a mini trip to Savage River Lodge. It was our first trip with Bear and he did so well! Really nice to just relax and getaway for just a few days before it gets really busy for the holidays. Nestled within more than 700 acres of Western Maryland's Savage River State, they offer eighteen luxury cabins and the nearby Lodge building, surrounded by the forest, convey a rustic, lived-in comfort. Sharing some photos from the trip, some are from the my phone and some on the Canon Rebel.

We borrowed Robert's parents' SUV because during the winter season, the lodge maybe only be accessed by 4x4 or AWD vehicles. Due to the lodge being located on a private drive, Mt Aetna Road, is a 1.5 mile mostly gravel country road.

The Lodge is the central gathering point. A spacious 10,000 square feet of space offers 3 floors of multi-use areas. The first floor is home to a 75 seat restaurant serving American regional cuisine, Great Room with double sided fireplace and relaxing, sink into furniture, and full bar. You will also find the Guest Services Desk on the same floor. This is the place where guests check-in, find answers to questions, set up recreation trips, get advice on hiking trails and much more.
The second floor houses the library. The library is home to a collection of hundreds of books with ample space to read, relax, and explore. The main library and conference space is open to use for meeting and events up to 40 people. The loft library has comfortable reading areas and places to play board games.
The ground floor of the Lodge is home to the Savage River Trading Company, our gift shop. It beckons with clothing, furnishing, decorative items, garden goodies, antiques and more.

There are rocking chairs out on the porch. A great place to kick back and relax. Maybe when we come back when it's warmer, it would be great to just sit outside and read a book.

There are three different types of cabins to choose from. The Standard cabins face the lane and the other cabins. The Forest cabins front porches provide a view of the Lodge forest. The Premier cabins, which are the most requested, are more secluded on property than the rest and offer the use of Lodge robes.
We went with the standard cabin with King size bed. Each of the cabin is two story where the sleeping area is upstairs. To truly experience the relaxation, there is no television.

We think Bear enjoyed going up and down the stairs.

The lodge is a short walking distance to have dinner from the cabin. There is also an option to dine in the cabin. We opted for that option because we didn't want to leave bear for too long since it's an entirely new environment. Also thought this was nice cause it was a chance to have a nice little dinner date.
The staff thought of everything down to the details of the glass water bottle with the glasses. They even set up the table for you.

Each morning, a basket would be dropped off on the porch. Inside, you will find a newspaper, fresh orange juice, and muffins. Since we had bear, they even included a doggy biscuit for him!

Though it was a little rainy during our stay. There was a short period where it wasn't raining so we went on a little hike. I can't stop thinking about the amazing tall pine trees. It was so peaceful and the trees went on for miles.

These are yurts, a nomadic structure traditionally used in the steppes of Mongolia, consisting of a round moveable tent with a bent-frame roof. Savage River Lodge's yurts are similarly styled, they are permanent structures with a wood frame covered in lattice work surrounded by a canvas outer covering. It would have been interesting to stay in one of those but unfortunately they do not allow pets or else we would loved to experience some "glamping".
